I think the most common problem is failing to cock the rifle properly. New owners will sometimes fail to pull the cocking lever back far enough. When it doesn't fire they try to cock it again, but this loads another pellet too. You can end up with a jam. You have to be sure to pull the cocking lever back as far as it will go and take care until you get used to the feel of the gun. Also have a cleaning kit handy and push the jam out with the gun on its side so that the pellets fall clear, not into the rifle.
