These cartridges are replacement for used up Co2. Definitely makes a difference in plant growth and seems to slow algae growth although will not stop it. Only way to go to slowly lower pH in the tank instead of adding chemicals which can shock fish easily if done incorrectly. Too bad there is no other replacement for these cartridges since it can get expensive if you do not take care to have a slow bubble count. Mine last around 3 weeks per cartridge at a 4 sec. per bubble count and I do not turn it off at night so it runs constantly. I feel it is just too much hassle to turn off and on all the time and wait to get the right adjustment each day. Amazon is the cheapest I have found for this product even with the shipping charges so you can't go wrong getting it from Amazon if you have the rest of the Co2 package from Fluval. Always be careful to Shut Valve OFF when replacing cartridges or you will blow off your bubble diffuser and who knows what else as these cartridges are usually charged to around 1200 psi when new. (it varies)
